On October 1, 2018, CDSTT members Zhang Han and Huang Zhiwei visited the African Union Embassy in the United States through the CDSTT member networking. During the visit, they had an hour-long face-to-face discussion with the AU Ambassador to the US, Dr. Ariana Chihombori-Quao. The ambassador and the visiting members discussed the history of the AU countries and their views on the current political and economic situation. Later, the ambassador told the students about her feelings of attending the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation in Beijing a few weeks ago. The ambassador said that she appreciates and agrees very much with the concept of "the community of China-Africa destiny" proposed by President Xi, and she is looking forward to furthering exchanges and cooperations between the AU and China.
The purpose of the visit is to help students get out of the classroom and understand the operation mode of international organizations through face-to-face communication with the staff and ambassador of the embassy. We hope such activities can help students go beyond the coursework and understand how international organizations operate through face-to-face communication, enhancing academic knowledge while establishing the basis for career choice. In the future, CDSTT will provide more valuable opportunities like this for members to broaden their horizons and develop new ideas. |
